hair dryer I pretty much agree with most of this article… except for the salary part. I don’t think that the writer went far enough. He stated that the top 10% of hair stylists made over $35,990. He didn’t say just how much more than $35,000 and some stylists are making big bucks! And my son hopes to be one of them. He has very expensive tastes. ;)

“Here’s a look at earnings and future of working in the hair-care industry.

Outlook — The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports employment of barbers, cosmetologists and other personal-appearance workers will grow 9 percent to 17 percent through 2014.

Professional pathways — New workers are given relatively simple tasks or are assigned simple procedures.

Once they have demonstrated their skills, they are given more complicated tasks.

Advancement takes the form of higher earnings as stylists become more experienced.

Some barbers and cosmetologists manage large salons, lease booth space in salons or open their own salons after several years of experience.”

*One little word of advice. When you choose your salon, be sure that they offer full medical coverage.

hair salon It’s easy to get caught up in the lifestyle, but if you aren’t getting enough sleep, you won’t be able to do your best work. And all if takes is one bad haircut to lose a client for life! And that can add up to a lot of money down the drain.
So, how much sleep are we talking about? It varies from one person to the next. While you might need 8 hours, another stylist might require only six.

And another thing… some clients like to be entertained while they are having their hair styled. I will talk more about this in the future, but if you are yawning, chances are you are doing nothing but boring them to tears.

This editorial, from Mike Hazelwood at the Visalia Times is a funny look at a man who cheated on his barber and went to the Cosmetologist with his wife. He also has a sister who is a cosmetologist, and his story just might ring true with you, as it did me. Here is a bit of the story, read the rest here:

Yes, I’ve cheated on my barbers … with a beautician. Oh, the shame.

For years I’ve been loyal to two shops (depending on my workplace situation): Tulare Barber Shop and Ernie’s Barber Shop in Visalia.

To my barbers, Dave, Ernie, Phil, Martîn — I’m sorry. It wasn’t you, guys, it was me.

You see, I agreed to go shopping with Wifey last weekend.

“But I need to get a haircut first,” I said.

“I want a haircut, too,” she said. “We should get one together.”

Ha, what a jokester Wifey is. She’d look ridiculous with a No. 1 Fade High and Tight Around the Ears.
