Did you know that the medication that your client may be on can affect haircolor results! As a stylist, it is important to ask. Apparently sulfur based drugs can add warmth to a hair color and high doses of vitamins and minerals can darken the color.

It is equally important for the individual who is coloring his own hair. If in doubt, ask your doctor to elaborate. They should be able to advise you about what you are taking. I have heard too many horror stories to simply ignore the possibility.

“Prime Minister Tony Blair’s Labor Party spent $13,700 on hairstyling bills for his wife, Cherie, in last year’s month-long general election campaign, a newspaper reported Friday.”

Just goes to show that a stylist can make a lot of money… and that was just for one month. And no, I don’t know how you apply to be the Prime Minister’s wife’s stylist! It might be back to that… who you know kind of thing! It’s getting to be more important every year!

Woman on TopI have this page torn out of a fashion magazine, stuck on my refrigerator. It’s a $2.00 off coupon for a L’Oreal do it yourself hair color! Thought that I would try it out and report back. It’s not that I have gray hair or anything lol…

But I just reading this morning that she received 2.2 million pounds for that endorsement. That’s big bucks! So, as I was saying over at Beauty, this is the perfect time for you to find a way to get yourself famous! Just look at Frederik Fekkai!

Hot Tools Dual Edge Ceramic Flat Iron with Gentle Far-Infrared Heat 1-1/2in.Okay, some of you are going to refer to them as fringe, so now that we are on the same page, I want to remind you that some people actually need bangs. The problem is that they haven’t discovered the style that works best for them.

As a professional hairstylist, you might want to make a collection of styles in a photo album to point out to your clients. They come with curl, and without. And then there are all the lengths to choose from.

Once you have covered all of those areas, you can move into the tools necessary. I would be lost without my flat iron. I have bangs from hell… they definitely need to be straightened!

hair cut When you have a client in the chair, be sure to check that they aren’t sitting with their legs crossed. They won’t realize that it could affect the cut, but it will and is an easy thing to overlook on your part.

Same goes for anyone at home who is trimming hair. It’s really easy to mess up. I once let my husband trim my hair. Just how badly could he do? Well, that cost him big time. I had to book a quick trip to have it re-cut.

red hairHere is just a wee bit of trivia that you can pass along to your clients as you are wowing them with your expertise… ;)

It is thought that since red hair is the result of a recessive gene, scientists believe that it might completely disappear in the future.

salon Kate Shapland looks at the beauty industry as a whole, but I was quite interested in what she had to say about a certain hairstylist in Britain. I would commit this paragraph to memory!

Michael Rasser’s Philosophy…‘My approach, and that of my salon Michaeljohn, has always been one of individuality. I don’t believe in a look of the week. You should never follow fashion for fashion’s sake. Certain colours, cuts and styles suit certain faces. Your hairstyle should suit both your look and your lifestyle.’

bebeautiful conditioner daily literToday’s Little Reminder…

Conditioners are only a temporary fix for hair that is behaving badly for one reason or another. It can’t heal anything. And no, it won’t nourish hair new hair growth. It pretty much just fills in those little holes that are in each hair shaft.

What it can do is make the hair easier to manage, give a little extra shine and make it a bit stronger. But damaged hair still has to be removed.

hair stylistHave you ever walked into a salon and the first thing you do is check out the hair of the stylists who work there? I do this all the time and I’m amazed at how little effort some of them take with their own hair. It’s like a walking bill board and it isn’t saying good things about them!

And just in case you are wondering. No, as a professional hair stylist, you aren’t allowed to have a bad hair day. Anyone else can get away with it, but if you are in the industry, it just can’t happen.
